2010 CE Workshop

Instruction Level  Intermediate

Proposed Audience  Psychologists, counselors, teachers, behavior specialists, behavior analysts, administrators, or other professionals or paraprofessionals who work with varied populations in varied settings.

Program Description  This workshop will focus on the relationship among the Behavior Analyst Certification Board's (BACB) Guidelines for Responsible Conduct for Behavior Analysts, the BACB's Professional Disciplinary Standards, and the APA’s ethical responsibilities for psychologists. Data from the BACB, APA and other sources will be reviewed and discussed by the participants to apply in their everyday use of applied behavior analysis. The "Guidelines" and "Standards" will also be discussed in view of their impact on the ethical use of behavior analytic practices. In addition the participants will review case examples that raise questions of ethical responsibility specifically in the context of non-behavior analytic procedures and therapies that may be provided to people with intellectual and related developmental disabilities.

Learning Objectives On completion of the workshop the participants should be able to:

1. describe the relationships between varied sources of ethics descriptions for clinicians in behavior analysis and psychology.

2. fescribe how to review and analyze their own behavior within the varied contexts and determine their most likely ethical problems.

3. identify and list strategies to effectively work with colleagues, ethics materials and other sources to discuss and attempt to resolve ethical issues.
