Instruction Level IntermediateProposed Audience Psychologists involved in the supervision and management of Licensed Practicing Psychological Associates in any field of Psychology. Program Description The clinical and ethical issues involved in effective supervision will be discussed using specific examples from several different sources. Part 1 will cover what is involved in the competent and ethical practice of supervision of licensed Psychologists. Part 2 will cover the supervision requirements drawn directly from the North Carolina Psychology Practice Act, with current information on the forms and timelines that are necessary to conduct supervision under the Act.
Learning Objectives On completion of the workshop the participants will be able to: 1. List the key features of four models for providing clinical supervision. 2. Understand the importance of Diversity issues in providing supervision. 3. List six elements of the APA Code of Conduct and Ethical Principles for Psychologists that are pertinent to supervision. 4. List four key elements of supervisory liability and malpractice. 5. List three key features of the evaluation of the supervisory process. 6. List six responsibilities of supervisors under the NC Psychology Practice Act. 7. State the timelines and complete the forms necessary to conduct supervision under the Act.
The Presenter Tom Thompson, Ph.D., LP-HSP Dr. Thompson is the Associate Director of Psychology Services at Murdoch Developmental Center. He has been a licensed psychologist in North Carolina and supervisor for more than 16 years. He has experience providing supervision for more than 50 supervisees including LPA staff psychologists, ancillary services providers, and interns. Dr. Thompson has served on the North Carolina Psychology Board for 9 years. He has a thorough understanding of the legal issues that most frequently adversely affect supervisors in North Carolina. His presentation is based heavily on the text: “Clinical Supervision: A Competency-Based Approach” by Carol Falender and Edward Shafranske, and the North Carolina Psychology Practice Act.

Attendance To receive credit, you must be present for the entire workshop, and you must sign the sign-in and sign-out sheets. No credit will be given for participants who are more than 15 minutes late at the beginning of the workshop. No credit will be given to participants who leave before the close of the workshop. You must complete an evaluation form and turn it in at the close of the workshop to receive credit. Participants will receive a certificate documenting their attendance following the workshop and credit certificates will be mailed to the address provided during registration.
Registration Deadline and Refund Policy There is currently space available in this workshop. Registration will be limited to 35 people. If a minimum of 10 people do not register the workshop will be cancelled. If you register for this workshop you will be contacted when the minimum number of registrants has been reached and it will be posted here. If you register on or before August 26th, 2008 there is a special early registration fee of $90.00 to attend this workshop. A student rate of $45.00 is available with proof of current full time student status. You will receive a full refund for cancellation received on or before August 29th, 2008. No refund will be provided for cancellation received on or after August 30th, 2008.
