Program Description  This workshop will equip you with the introductory skills and knowledge to apply behavioral systems analysis tools to design improvement interventions in your clinic, classroom, team, or other organizational systems. This workshop contains two parts: (1) Part One will focus on the value of using behavioral systems analysis tools, an overview of the tools, and building fluency in the fundamentals of system thinking. (2) Part Two will include guided practice in the use of behavioral systems analysis tools to understand how your systems impact relevant behaviors connected to your critical needs. The aim of this workshop is to ensure that participants will be able to begin to apply behavioral systems analysis tools to their own organization.

 

Learning Objectives  On completion of the workshop the participants should be able to:

1. describe the value of using behavioral systems analysis tools

2. fluently identify the components of a system and the impact of disconnects

3. demonstrate how to identify the right performance variables at various levels of an organization using behavioral systems analysis tools

4. demonstrate how to design an effective performance management system to support a performance improvement intervention

5. apply behavioral systems analysis tools to an organization and be able to identify how to conduct follow up measures

 

The Presenters

Timothy D. Ludwig, Ph.D. earned his Ph.D. at Virginia Tech researching the benefits of employee-driven behavior based safety programs under E. Scott Geller. Dr. Ludwig is a full professor at Appalachian State University where he was named a University Deans’ Distinguished Graduate Faculty for his contributions to the nationally recognized Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Human Resources Management Masters program. Dr. Ludwig's teaching has been recognized with the North Carolina University Board of Governors’ Excellence in Teaching award and he has been inducted into Appalachian State University's Academy of Outstanding Teachers. Dr. Ludwig is currently the editor of the Journal of Organizational Behavior Management. He is the author of dozens of scholarly articles that empirically document the successes of methods to improve safety and quality in industry through behavior-based management. His book Intervening to Improve the Safety of Occupational Driving reviews 10 years of behavior-based safety in the product delivery industry. Dr. Ludwig serves on the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies’ Behavioral Safety Accreditation Board that reviews best-in-industry safety practices and offers independent, objective feedback on safety programs. Within his consulting practice at Safety Performance Solutions, Dr. Ludwig has helped design, deliver, and implement safety programs at Corning, Albany International, TRW Automotive, Eastman Chemicals, Domino’s Pizza, Carolina Medical Center, Kimberly Clarke, Connectiv Energy, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), SuperValue, and Nucor Steel. He has continued this research for two decades integrating his empirical findings into his safety consulting. He also has provided his expertise in Behavior Systems Analysis, Strategic Planning, and Human Resources Development to numerous private and government organizations over the past 15 years.

 

Lori H. Diener, Ph.D. is a passionate performance consultant currently focusing on non-profits and small businesses. She has improved performance in a variety of organizations across diverse industries including automotive retail, construction, education, human service, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and technology, in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. She has extensive experience conducting systems analyses, mapping processes, designing performance measurement systems, management processes and performance based training. She's applied her creativity and scientific foundation in a range of settings, from Fortune 300 companies to human service agencies. Dr. Diener received her B.S. in Psychology and Creative Writing (1998), M.A. in Industrial Organizational Psychology (2001) and Ph.D. in Applied Behavior Analysis (2003) from Western Michigan University.

Credit  3 Hours Category A Continuing Education Credit for NC psychologists and/or 3 hours Type II BACB Approved Continuing Education Credit.

 

Attendance  To receive credit, you must be present for the entire workshop, and you must sign the sign-in and sign-out sheets. No credit will be given for participants who are more than 15 minutes late at the beginning of the workshop. No credit will be given to participants who leave before the close of the workshop. You must complete an evaluation form and turn it in at the close of the workshop to receive credit. Participants will receive a certificate documenting their attendance following the workshop and credit certificates will be mailed to the address provided during registration.

 

Registration Deadline and Refund Policy  There is currently space available in this workshop. Registration will be limited to 40 people. If you register on or before January 22nd, 2010 there is a special early registration fee of $55.00 to attend this workshop. There are also special rates available for anyone who would like to attend both this workshop and any of the four pre-conference workshops offered on Wednesday February 17th, 2010 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon. Continuing Education Credit  The program is co-sponsored by the North Carolina Psychological Association and the North Carolina Association for Behavior Analysis.  The North Carolina Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.  The North Carolina Psychological Association maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This program is offered for 3 hours of continuing education credit. In addition, this workshop is BACB approved for 3 hours of Type II continuing education credits.
